Road Danger: Unveiling the impact of car crashes and change the narratives

Why should journalists call them crashes, not accidents?

To answer that, the students built an AI tool that rewrites headlines to be more humanising, shifting focus back to the real victims and mobility patterns in our society. Their innovation also helped the global Road Danger team rethink how to use technology to scale up their manually uploaded stories.

The result: an algorithm that helps journalists reframe narratives, promoting empathy and accountability in news coverage.

Professor Marco te Brömmelstroet (Urban Future Mobilities, UvA; Lab of Thought) called it “incredible, outstanding and impactful work.” After seeing the demo, the CTO even asked: “Can’t you take over our platform?!”
